Chinese Brush Calligraphy Course Unleash your creativity while exploring a beautiful ancient tradition taught by Yan Mak Curious about learning a skill that blends art, mindfulness, and aesthetics? Our Chinese calligraphy class is perfect for you, even if you don't know a word of Chinese! This is a unique opportunity to relax, focus on the present moment, and tap into your artistic side. Over the course of 3 weekly Sunday morning 2-hour sessions, you will dive into the graceful strokes and techniques of Chinese calligraphy. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have crafted your own festive calligraphy traditional decoration (揮春) to take home, frame it, and use as unique decorations! Join us and experience the elegance and serenity of calligraphy in a fun, stress-free environment! Class Plan Class 1: • Introduction to basic strokes • Learning how to hold the brush correctly • Practicing on water practice paper • Each student can take the water practice paper home to continue practicing. Class 2: • Students will learn how to grind ink using the tools provided • Practice writing simple Chinese characters • Introduction to the traditions of Chinese New Year decorations. Class 3: • Further practice with a variety of Chinese characters • Helping students to create their own calligraphy designs • Each student will make their own calligraphy decoration to take home Course fee includes a writing set to take home, including: 1 storage box, 1 inkstone, 1 ink stick, 1 inkpad, 1 brush holder, 1 stamp, 1 cleaning bowl, 4 brushes of different sizes, and 1 piece of reusable water practice paper. Cancellation Policy
Please note our classes are mostly aimed for adults. Please get in touch to ask if you are unsure. Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to fit you in on another date but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. T&Cs Terms & Conditions • You can book places on our classes, workshops and events on our website or in person at Bus Stop Studios, 53 London Road, St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex TN37 6AY • Places are booked on a first-come-first-served basis. Full payment is required at the time of booking in order to reserve your place. • Bookings and payments will be confirmed by email. • The materials and tools needed for each class varies, so please refer to the course description but don’t hesitate to contact us with any queries. • If you are unable to attend a class, workshop or event you may send someone else in your place. You must let us know the name of the attendee prior to the class, workshop or event taking place. • Confirmed & paid bookings are not eligible for payment refunds. • You can transfer to another class, workshop or event or receive a credit note if you notify us at least 14 days before the date of the class, workshop or event you are booked on to attend. • In exceptional circumstances, where we may have to cancel one of our advertised classes, workshops or events, you will be offered a full refund. • If a class, workshop or event is cancelled our liability is solely for the cost of the booking fee, not for any other costs you may have incurred such as materials you may have purchased in advance, travel costs or accommodation. • Attendees at our classes, workshops and events are not permitted to use any of our instruction sheets, photography or designs for their own classes or other commercial concerns.
